Jessica writes fiction, poetry and journalism.
She is interested in the dichotomy between tenderness and cruelty, and exploring to what extent our language shapes our thoughts.
Her debut novel Saltwater explores mother-daughter relationships and identity in relation to place, social class and the body. It will be published by Sceptre (UK) and FSG (US) in Spring 2019 and translated in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Greece.
She co-runs and edits online literary and arts magazine The Grapevine.
Her work has been published by Somesuch Stories, AnOther, Caught by the River, Shabby Doll House, Papaya Press, HYSTERIA, Subs Zine, GREYSCALE zine, The Contemporary ICA zine, and Poor Lass zine among others.
She runs Literature and Creative Writing classes for adults, young people and children.
